It has been estimated that there could be about 2.8 million lost or forgotten pension pots out there, worth an average of £9,500 each – over £26.6 billion in total. In 2021 Punter Southall founded National Pension Tracing Day (NPTD) - an initiative aimed at encouraging the nation to look for lost pensions. Founder sponsors were Aegon, Legal & General, Scottish Widows and Standard Life, and they’ve since been joined by Aviva, Hargreaves Lansdown, Royal London, Smart Pension and The People’s Pension.
NPTD happens on the last Sunday of October (this year it’s the 29th) so that people can use the extra hour to join the Great Pension Treasure Hunt and potentially rediscover thousands of pounds. This year NPTD has once again partnered with the Pension Attention campaign as part of Pension Awareness season.
In the cost of living crisis, pension saving levels for some people are falling. Yet there’s billions of pension pounds out there waiting to be claimed, which could transform people’s retirement. There are some amazing stories since we started this campaign – one person found pensions worth £80,000, another managed to retire seven years earlier than they’d planned.Join the campaign by using this free NPTD communications toolkit to spread the word.
