We want individuals to feel more informed and empowered in knowing how to trace lost pensions, where to go if they need help, and understanding of key considerations like consolidation. That’s why we’ve pulled together a range of materials, using a multi-channel approach, to help you support your members in finding their lost pensions.
The suite of communications can be used as a whole or individually, so you can incorporate them into your own communications if you want to.
If you are using the toolkit as a whole, we recommend splitting it into four stages:
• Stage 1: Raising awareness with ‘did you know’ messaging • Stage 2: Driving action on Sunday's National Pension Tracing Day • Stage 3: Helping those that found treasure with next steps • Stage 4: Rounding off with the wider retirement picture
For each stage, there are a number of materials available which can be found over the following pages. We’ve also proposed a ‘go-live’ date for each stage so you can be sure you’re issuing communications in a timely manner.
Starting approximately two weeks before the day, our multi-channel ‘teaser communications’ can help you generate publicity and awareness of NPTD. This stage helps to launch the date and position the problem, providing background information and informative statistics, whilst asking individuals to take specific actions in the lead up to NPTD. (Proposed date: 15 October)

After the official NPTD, it’s time to consider next steps and dive into more detail about key considerations, like consolidation. This stage gives individuals informative resources to help educate them about transferring their pensions and making a pension collection. (Proposed date: 5 November)

Learning module on transferring
Rounding off the campaign, with more information about what to do next with their pension(s). Things to think about include considering their retirement age, investment choices and protecting loved ones by completing an ‘expression of wish’ form. Here the aim is to wrap up the campaign positively by encouraging engagement in other aspects of their pension(s). NPTD may only be one day, but we hope to encourage long-term engagement in pensions. (Proposed date: 12th November)
